okay everyone we are going to start the program now please continue enjoying your lunch again I jump for the main stock market game quarter very proud to have that ability to bring the stock market talk to you here in Maine my home stayed here now so well let's start with his a celebration a celebration for the security industry financial markets cuz it is the 40th year bringing the stock market game to Main and all other 49 states so so here is the and friends from other schools in the state of Georgia they were the Pioneers behind the start of the stock market game here was the first brochure what the stock market game look like at the time and some cases schools did have hey the play the stock market game today thanks to so many generous sponsors across the United States that will mention some of them today they gave in Most states is still free to play like it is in Maine all right 1977 through 83 Maine it's white it out there which means it was not participating but half the country was on its way but now as we enter into the beginning of the ladies mid-80s and I do remember any right here in Portland Maine at the main Council of economic education who brought the game to us through Bob Mitchell who has now retired and so has the council so it was it's now obviously she picks up the stock market game each year bringing it to you directly don't you remember that is really going back to when you may have started like in the early late 80s early 90s chair back there anybody else okay there's a picture tells you stories about it too but before we had computers in the classroom at technology to play the game this is what we will use a newspaper was always up-to-date and I've been 3 days old or whatever but we got our stock prices out of them and then after we realize we like the numbers related to all the New York Stock Exchange NASDAQ all stocks and even Annex stocks at that time so you carefully and then the teacher has to run entry and a bunch of trays for your stupid so that was an important thing because I say today is Tuesday and your your classes are trading of lively in class and then that means I'd run down and I would run down to the post office by 3 in our town yet that postmark tomorrow Wednesday at the market close at for the stocks were executed at that price so those were the good old days of the stock market game as you can see into the turn of the century technology had arrived computers to buy stocks I need the 90s were a wonderful decade specially in mutual funds because everybody was learning how to do it electronically with technology and move on with what was first called The Learning Center for teachers I brought curriculum to help with classroom lesson planning and now look at where we come in another 1718 years with a wonderful technology we all enjoy today with the game and throughout our lives so it's been 40 Years of financial capability thanks to the sifma program at this time we are have some brief remarks that I wanted to share with you all but it is Jim Mansion I'm based here in I'm responsible for our offices here in Portland Bangor Portsmouth and also Manchester for the for the privatebank just wanted to say congratulations congratulations to all of you for the work you did this year with the stock market game I'm just being the 40th anniversary I know that Morgan Stanley's proud to support the Exceptional Foundation and the investor invested Word program which connects volunteers like myself with teachers and students like you throughout the country so I want to thank also all the other invested forward volunteers who volunteered your time to be with you all for a rewarding interaction I'll just share with you I think it's important Morgan Stanley's core values putting clients first doing the right thing leading with except call values and giving back in June happens to be global volunteer month for us at the firm and last year we had more than 41000 employees deliver over 280000 hours of to your time in the US and it was over 1.3 million globally with fellow employees for instance is part of this after this Friday I'm looking forward to going up to Auburn to the Good Shepherd food bank that we all know that does such good work Trout Maine as part of the feeding kids around the clock campaign supporting local food banks around the state so I encourage all of you to find a cause or causes that you care about that you passionate about in your life and find time to volunteer and give back when able I'm a big believer that you know together I think we can all have a measurable impact for the common good which is so again congratulations to everybody and your and your work that you did this year I had the honor of being with Miss sanborn's class at sacopee Valley Middle School I guess just over a month ago the 8th grade class to talk about the stock market game and in particular Capital Market and that was an interactive that was a pretty interactive session and I hope this will be as well so just breathe background that I thought pertinent to you all given your participation in the in the stock market game is a student I participated in a stock market Club in college I attended Denison University which is in Ohio and I was really fast Hey by the markets because they were constantly constantly changing I graduated and began my career at the old firm Kidder Peabody in their training program as a financial advisor trainee and in Washington DC where I grew up and my career is, is focused on wealth management and Advising families individuals foundations and endowments on managing their Assets in 2005 my family and my family and I moved from DC to Kennebunk where my mom's side of the family is from I married my wife Andy and I have three kids are daughter Grace is a finishing your software you're at St Lawrence in Upstate New York she's a graduate of Kennebunk high school and then we have two boys Junior and a seventh-grader and today in my professional role I serviced private Banker from Stanley at my job is really to work in partnership with our financial advisors and their client primarily addressing any needs related to Banking and lending things such as lines of credit lines of credit against marketable Securities mortgages commercial real estate finance and overall cash management so my average day involves going to our different offices on a regular rotation meeting with these advisors meeting with clients discussing needs they have and looking for appropriate solutions for their needs so just briefly for the interactive segment just some questions I thought that I'd bring up that I'd invite you all to think about him possibly answer and then maybe turn it back over to Jim baby tapir if you would be willing to share your perspectives from your I'm with the stock market game around third of what skills you believe you developed through the game and the program I saw I had the opportunity and in the case of Miss Edwards class to see a number of the portfolios that the stew you're working on so I think it's interesting to think about you know if you could work for any company represented in your portfolio what would that Company B and Y and add that company what position would you want and consider what kind of job or internships you might want to think about preparing for and why so for instance of future veterinarian might work at a local pet shop or be Apollo Sheridan animal shelter to put something that you really care about an an area of investment management that might tie into your unique they're there a lot of different areas within the financial services sector whether it's trading research service there there's a breadth of opportunities in different fields within within the industry the last I guess I'd asked you is if you were investing your own money would you would you have a what should your portfolio in the same way that you did as a team as a collective group and if not what would you have done differently and why so I love any any of the stew that might be willing to share their thoughts on any of these questions maybe we can Because he likes video games we work together to pick our stocks and to improve them together we work together and that's what really counts we all had a part and we did that part so what can I say except thank you for this fun opportunity and we had and we had and thank you Abby Caitlin Brody and mr. Larry for being a fun and helpful to thank you very much I was impressive well. special in the past only have the stock market game logo on the front but because of the commemorative year look at the back is beautifully well done on both sides so don't lose this is 40 years from now and then 80th anniversary for value of a Bitcoin Ojo best thing in Commodities in Bitcoins anybody okay just asking all right now here we go with me I want to jump the spring that was fast all right once again by Mr Jatt well congratulations everyone here today all the winners always enjoy coming back here every spring verse 30 years that I played the stock market game I never came in started coming here when we had one of our students change the way we invested we always Diversified portfolio we never borrowed money he spent all the money he had he borrowed all the money he could borrow can you put it in about 4 or 5 stocks so he took maximum risk all the time so when you see our teams are near the top we have as many teams at the bottom as we have at the top but it's it's a great way it's it's a great game I use it nearest 15 to 20 minutes of every class and students usually don't listen to my pics and I went to the school board recently and I was explaining the stock market came to them and I had a couple students with and I was telling them that you know why I give them all these choices I have my stock broker come in and they he can give some pics and I said but they never listen to me and when the students came up to talk to the guy on the microphone talk to the school board they said if it is right we never listen to him so you know end up and one of the story before I introduce them to you probably three or four weeks ago I got a call from my next student pees in his second year is med school and he thanked me for doing the stock market game in fifth and sixth grade he said that because of that stock market he says my my education will be paid off with my portfolio so the ice students in here he started asking for shares of stocks when he was in high school and grammar school they said what do you want for Christmas he's the one I want to share this I want to share this and so his portfolio started really young and I think it's a great way to you for you to get into the stock market you know when you don't know what you want ask your grandparents or your parents for a shares of stocks that you like and that's how I read kids pick their stock they pick companies that they really enjoy so it might be something to think about cuz your education is going to cost a lot more than mine cost so the five people into weren't mentioned the five people in the call games where Anthony troiano Andrew hair Isabella Hermes Wesley tario and Lucas would but before that I just wanted to thank I always forget this I want to thank the sifma foundation because we used to pay for every team we had in the septum Foundation pays for everything and I want to thank the staff Lord for all of his help throughout the dope boys we would also like to thank mr. fish for letting us do the stock market game and like mr. Ford for making this possible we have Middle School football visors Christopher Webb temperature break here little bit this is actually my first year doing on the stock market game we got a text to Teresa shop name is swag and Morgan brown with some of the concepts with this being the first year they done I should have bet she would have approached it not having a financial background but I like the other clients we can talk about to like trying to teach him patience for a little bit but they would come in they're stalking me down $0.02 and they actually keep track of their socks and for the first session after a little while they start to realize they were competing against other folks because I accidentally session see how they're performing against other middle schools around the area is a great chance also have some conversations around 6 on things like couple cans of Dustin Facebook why is Facebook doing so bad right now we have a chance to talk about things are going the elections as well my name is Teresa and during the fall session we had a group of three which included Naima Morgana myself I enjoyed working in this group because we basically have the same ideas of like what stocks we wanted to invest in and it made things work really smooth I think we work very well in the group because this wasn't our first time working together as a group and we knew who capable of what it was easy to assign the job so we were able to record the information we need it for our stocks and we had to make a decision we figured out it easy because we all had the same opinions on things all three of us wanted to separate what we got so one thing would be food clothes and then choose it was somewhat easy to figure out the stocks I think the only hard thing was the type of clothing company we wanted to investing that's when we want to do something that had more than one we had to research it and Overton's and we found L Brands and we all agreed on it and other than that we worked good as a group my name is Morgan to be honest with you nothing about the stock market game to start off the weather for Modesto we had $100,000 a Sprite with three companies quickly thought of popular companies that was me love it all back and Mass to do overtime it got easier and easier the weight the way we decided I think was June 8th we chose what we thought would do well we drove into the stock market game with no knowledge so we kind of chose what we were familiar with what companies were L Brands McDonald's in Nike when was the food company another is a clothing company and one is a sporting goods sport sporting company and we Thrive and we survived our stocks were a total 122600 and $15 on the last day that means in 10 weeks in 10 weeks we made $22,615 I have no idea what I would do with that kind of money I would probably just give it to my parents so I won't spend it plus they deserve it so much for helping me thank you all again I'll be back spring 2018 Jordan small Middle School 100 2257 I'll let Diana Austin tell you how she made 120000 I may be a hundred twenty thousand because like towards the end of the year I decided to get a new account and I'm in class I bought for stocks and then the next day I came back and I was in 3rd so then I did leave my account alone and then after a week one of my stocks went up which was pcmi and it went up to 3000 so now I jumped a second place and then I am ended up going to 1st and well I want to thank the staff my foundation for giving me this opportunity to play great job Diana spring 2018 the spring session is instead of having the kids I have a small group of students in my class is only about the first session ended up with a group this one they were staying they had to sink or swim on their own make their own choices was less team-building and more problem solving and figuring out which stock they want to keep which ones they couldn't actually a lot more and some other options they had good afternoon everyone in this report for giving me this opportunity and honestly I really pay much attention to my stocks investing I had interesting and I just watch them if they group aren't they sunk Middle School hey members who are Diana Ross barbarous and cellophane strip feenstra and I'm dying Austin I like to thank Pacific foundation for giving us this opportunity to play the stock market game board and mr.
