okay we want we are going to start the program Jim Ford the main stock market game quarter very proud to have that ability bring the stock market game to you here in Maine my home stayed here now so what I want to start with is a celebration a celebration for the security industry financial markets cuz it is XL I'll sipma bringing the stock market game to Main and all other 49 states so what who is the man in friends from programs to their schools in the state of Georgia and they were the Pioneers behind the start of the stock market game here was the first brochure what the stock market game look like at the time and some cases goals did have to pay the play the stock market game today thanks to so many generous sponsors across the United States that will mention some of them today they gave in Most states is still free to play it is in Maine alright so when it began in 1977 through 83 what what state was not playing yet Maine it's white it out there which means it was not participating but half the country was on its way but now as we enter into the beginning of the 80's mid-80s Portland Maine at the main Council economic education who brought the game to us through Bob Mitchell who has now retired and so has the council so it was is now obviously we are bringing it to you directly this is really like during the early late 80s early 90s that you can raise your head back there okay precipitation stories about it too but before we had computers in the classroom at technology to play the game this is what we use each and every day in our classes we will use and it wasn't always up-to-date it might have been 4 days old or whatever but we get our stock prices out of them and then after we realize we like the particular company we would go to the booklet that came with the game and all numbers related to all the New York Stock in NASDAQ stocks and even Amex stocks at that time so you carefully and then the teacher pay or it's not going to be a valid entry and end up on students so that wasn't important because I say today is Tuesday and your your classes are trading of lively in class and then that means I'd run down and I would run down to the post office by 3 in our town postmark and then tomorrow Wednesday at the market closing for the stocks were executed at that price so those were the good old days of the stock market game as you can see into the turn of the century technology would using computers to buy stocks I mean the 90s were wonderful. Especially in mutual funds because everybody was learning how to do it electronically and supplicate along with what was first called The Learning answer for teachers abroad curriculum to help with classroom lesson planning and now look at where we come in another 1718 years but a wonderful technology we all enjoy today with the game and Toronto are so it's been 40 Years of financial capability teachers and students like you throughout the country so I want to thank also all the other invested forward volunteer to volunteer their time to be with you all for a rewarding interaction I'll just share with you I think it's important Morgan Stanley's core values putting clients first doing the right thing leading with exceptional values and giving back in June happens to be global volunteer month for us at the firm and last year we had more than 40 1000 please deliver over two hundred eighty open hours of volunteer time in the US and it was over 1.3 million globally employees for instance is part of this after this Friday I'm looking forward to going up to Auburn to the Good Shepherd food bank that we owe now that does such good work Trout Maine as part of the feeding kids around the clock campaign supporting local food banks around the state so I encourage all of you to find a cause or causes that you care about that you're passionate about in your life and find time to volunteer and give back when able I'm a big believer that you know together I think we can all have a measurable impact for the common good which is needed so again congratulations to everybody and you're in your work that you did this year I had the honor of being with Miss sanborn's class at sacopee Valley Middle School I guess just over a month ago the first grade class to talk about the stock market game and in particular Capital markets and that was an interactive that was a pretty interactive session and I hope this will be as well so just breathe background I thought my partner to you all given your participation in the in the stock market game is a student I participated in a stock market Club College I-10 to Denison University which is in Ohio I was really fascinated by the markets because they were constantly constantly changing I graduated and began my career at the Old Farm Kidder Peabody in their training program as a financial advisor and down in Washington DC where I grew up and my career is, is focused on wealth management and Advising families individuals foundations and endowments on managing their Assets in 2005 my family and my family and I moved from DC to Kenny bunk where my mom's side of the family is from I married my wife and I have 3 kids are daughter Grace is a finishing or sophomore year st-lawrence in Upstate New York she's a graduate accounting monk high school and then we have two boys Junior and a seventh-grader and today in my professional role I service private Banker for Morgan Stanley at my job is really to work in partnership with our financial advisors and their clients primarily addressing any needs related to Banking and lending so things such as lines of credit lines of credit against marketable Securities mortgages commercial real estate finance and overall cash management so my average day involves going to our different offices on a regular Road meeting with these advisors meeting with clients discussing needs they have and looking for appropriate solutions for their needs so just briefly for the interactive segment some questions that I thought that I'd bring up that I'd invite you all to think about him possibly answer and then maybe turn it back over to Jim baby tapir if you would be willing to share your perspective from your time with the stock market game around sort of what skills you believe you developed through the game and the program I saw I had the opportunity and in the case of the same words class to see a number of the portfolios that the students were working on so I think it's interesting to think about you know if you could work for any company represented in your portfolio what would that Company B and Y and add that company what position would you and consider what kind of job or internships you might want to think about preparing for and why so for instance of future veterinarian might work at a local pet shop volunteer at an animal shelter but something that you really care about an an area of investment management that might tie into your unique they're there a lot of different areas within the financial services sector weather its Trading research client service there's a breadth of opportunities in different fields within within the industry the last I guess I'd asked you is if you were investing your own money would you have would you have approached your portfolio in the same way that you did with as a team as a collective group and if not what would you have done differently and why so I love n any of the students that might be willing to share their thoughts on any of these questions maybe we can have some have some feedback and again appreciate the opportunity to be with you all here today and thank you for your Fitch for making this possible the way we won was with Roku vrx in United Steel I also want to thank my team and mr. board for making this possible we have arrived we have moments in middle school with a hundred 22000 $615 / there dizer Christopher Webb mr. pitcher break here little bit this is actually my first year doing on the stock market game we got the shaw name is swag and Morgan Brown the First with some of the concepts sing the first should have done it with how to approach it not having a financial background but we can talk about trying to teach him patience for a little bit when they would come in their stock be down $0.02 and they have to celebrate in there actually key popular stocks and not sell them at all for the first session after a little while they started to realize ever compete against other folks because I accidentally session they want to see how they were performing against schools around the area to have some conversations around six things like people kids invested in Facebook why is Facebook to me so bad right now talk about things are going as well do you think my name is Teresa and during the fall session we had a group of three who did Naima Morgan to myself I enjoyed working on this group because we basically have the same ideas of like with stocks and wanted to invest in and it made things work really smooth I think we work very well in the group because this wasn't our first time working together as a group we knew who was capable of what it was easy to assign the job so we were able to record the information we need it for our stocks and we had to make a decision we figured out it easy because we all had the same opinions on things all three of us wanted to great what we got so one thing would be food clothes and then choose it was somewhat easy to figure out the stocks I think the only hard thing was the type of clothing company we wanted to investing that's when we want to do something that had more than one store we had research it and find the L Brands and we found L Brands and we all agreed on it and other than that we worked good as a group my name is Morgan to be honest we knew nothing about the stock market start off what's the weather for Modesto we had $100,000 or Sprite with three companies we weren't sure what to do with that money but quickly thought of popular companies that was Neil of it all seemed pretty confusing at first with a lot of numbers to keep track and Mass to do overtime easier and easier the way the way we decided I think was June 8th we chose what we thought would do well we drove into the stock market game with no knowledge so we kind of chose what we were earlier with our company's where L Brands McDonald's in Nike when was the food company another is a clothing company and one is a sporting goods sport sporting company companies and in the end we Thrive and we survived Our Stars total of $122,615 on the last day that means in 10 weeks in 10 weeks we made $22,615 no idea what I would do with that kind of money I would probably just give it arthritis so I won't spend it plus they deserve it so much for helping me thank you all again I'll be back spring 2018 Jordan small Middle School 120,000 257 I'll let Diana Austin tell you how she made 120000 okay I made $120,000 like towards the end of the year I decided to get a new account and I'm in class I bought for stocks and then the next day I came back and I wasn't there so then I did leave my account and then after a week one of my stocks went up which was pcmi and it went up $3,000 and I jumped in second place and then I ended up going first and I want to thank this if my foundation for giving me this opportunity to Play Store Rachel Diane alright what you doing spring 2018 tool spring session is instead of having the kids were together. I have a small group of students using my classes when the kids so the first session they did it with a group just want to be where Standalone make their own choices was the more problem solving and figuring out which stock they want to talk a lot more and showed some other options they had good afternoon everyone in this report for giving me this opportunity and honestly I didn't really pay much attention to my Xbox Sebastian and stuff that I had interest in and I just watched them if they group aren't they sunk alright where is it near Long Middle School K members Diana Ross on Lower Burris and cellophane strip hi my I'm still feenstra and I'm Diana I like to thank Pacifica foundation for giving us this opportunity to play the stock market game and mr. Fitch because he introduced us to the stock market game stop petroleum we basically just stop with that stock for the whole year and we never sold it just kept going up and it did John Jordan 50 Cent not far behind the next Jordan small Middle School 147 making money team members wear Damon Venoy and Dylan Hayes I don't think that's if my Foundation mr.
